This beautiful 30 week programme ( no attendance in school holidays) is designed for people who wish to work in luxury spas worldwide, on cruise ships, on superyachts, in day spas or in their own spa / beauty / wellness business.
The programme leads to the NZ Certificate in Spa Therapy - Level 5 .
This qualification will open up the world of one of the biggest and fastest growing industries - The Wellness Industry.
DURATION - 30 weeks
May 2nd – December 10th 2021 – 3 days a week attendance term time only.
Your time commitment
Wed / Thurs / Fri 9-5pm face to face classroom attendance
7 hours per week homestudy ( eLearning / workbooks / assignments / projects)
4 hours on average revision and practice at home
35 hours per week (term time only) including classroom based instruction using power points, you tube, notes, textbooks, activities, practicum, research activities, reading and explanation, demonstrations, guest speakers, workshops, internal work experience sessions in our school clinic, external work experience , assessments and assignments, including a level of home based study, eLearning, revision, projects, practical practice and completion of individual activities .
It is desirable for students to have access to a laptop computer or tablet .
There will be supervised client sessions at the school clinic which runs as close to the real-life workplace as possible.

Aim
This qualification is designed to provide the beauty, resort, tourism and wellness industry with spa therapists who have the skills and knowledge to critically analyse, plan and provide spa therapy services which include Indian head massage, lymphatic drainage, hot stones, pre blended aromatherapy, reflexology, wraps and scrubs, hydrotherapy and other holistic services.
This qualification is intended for learners who have prior learning or experience as a massage or beauty therapist to equip them with specialised spa therapist competencies. If you don't have any massage experience, don't panic! Call us and we can help you with that.
Graduates will be capable of working autonomously within spa therapy contexts.
Content
The programme will cover health, safety and hygiene legislation and regulations obligations, first aid. consultation with clients to analyse and evaluate their needs and develop a treatment plan for spa therapy services, creating a safe and sensitive environment for spa therapy services.
Our programme includes:
- techniques - hot stone therapy, Indian head, reflexology, pre-blended aromatherapy, lymph drainage massage, body exfoliation and wraps, hydrotherapy services, Reiki, EFT and related skills, to meet client's needs, during and after treatment, in accordance with industry standards and current and emerging trends, steam and sauna.
Relevant aspects of chemistry, physics and biology in a spa therapy context to provide effective services and ensure client comfort and safety.
Relevant human body systems, organs and specific functions for spa therapy services.
Nutritional advice which is complementary to spa therapy services including health detoxification and elimination.
Implementation of spa environmental sustainability requirements and procedures.
Knowledge of skin and body diseases and disorders in order to identify symptoms, provide information and advice, and refer clients to health practitioners in accordance with industry standards relating to scope of practice
Outcome
Graduates will be able to:
* Implement professional standards and expectations relating to spa therapy services including all relevant health, safety and hygiene legislation and regulations' obligations.
* Undertake an in-depth consultation with clients to analyse and evaluate their needs and develop a treatment plan for spa therapy services.
* Create a safe and sensitive environment for spa therapy services.
* Apply knowledge of spa therapy services and products, and related skills, to meet client's needs, during and after treatment, in accordance with industry standards and current and emerging trends.
* Apply knowledge of hydrotherapy services, and related skills, to meet client's needs, during and after treatment, in accordance with industry standards and current and emerging trends.
* Apply knowledge of relevant aspects of chemistry, physics and biology in a spa therapy context to provide effective services and ensure client comfort and safety.
* Provide nutritional advice which is complementary to spa therapy services.
* Implement spa environmental sustainability requirements and procedures.
* Apply knowledge of skin and body diseases and disorders in order to identify symptoms, provide information and advice, and refer clients to health practitioners in accordance with industry standards relating to scope of practice.

Applicants will possess a good level of communication and presentation and be confident in their ability to complete the level of coursework in order to be successful.
Applicants must undertake a full course briefing to ensure they fully understand the content, aims and outcomes of the programme and that it meets their needs.
Applicants must ensure they have support systems in place to assist them to reach their goals, in terms of study time available, family support, childcare support etc.
This programme is not open to International students .
